"Camera Obscura"

15” x 6” x 10” Room Box

2013

Artistically, I'm interested in the emotional impact of hidden, artificial or transformed spaces, especially in the context of dioramas and museum installations. This project built on the historic tradition of miniature room boxes, but with an emphasis on the hidden room behind the door. Created as a contribution to Baltimore's David Lynch-fest Art Show, it also references a photograph central to one of his films. Looking through the doorway, the viewer sees only the reflected light of a flickering electric flame. The entire box was hand-made, from the pine exterior to the miniature architecture inside.
